Puppy Classes

We've been participating in puppy classes over at our neighborhood Petsmart.

This afternoon was the 5th in a 6 week course. So far, things have gone really well. Ferb has proved to be a typical Lab, he is so eager to please his people, that he has picked up his training really well.

The training has been really entertaining. We were fortunate enough to be in a class with only one other puppy. So, it's very much like having our own personal dog trainer. In fact, today, I was the only one to show up, so we had one on one time with the trainer. The trainer is extremely funny. She's one of those people who prefers animals to people. She also loves big dogs over their smaller friends in the canine world, which is great for us because she absolutely adores Ferb.

We were working on stay and wait commands today, as well as learning tricks. While discussing the fundamentals of each, she also discussed the need for a release command, such as "all done," or "ready", she stressed the fact that using a word like "okay" is not a good choice because we use it so often in daily speech.

She suggested that his release command should be something that is easy to remember, but not a word we use in every day conversation. *GRINS EVILLY*

The Sailor has missed two classes. Of course both absences were due to his work schedule, but I had a really hard time with Ferb at the first class that he missed, and without him there at class today, the trainer and I were able to pick on my poor, defenseless, unknowing hubby. :)

I have decided that Ferb's release command is going to be " HOO-YAH", because after all this is a Navy home.

Doesn't that just sound like a great release command?

And yes, Ferb's been signed up for another six weeks of classes, when he's finished with this class.

Hope everyone's having a great weekend!
